What Do These Orange Grilled Chicken Wings Taste Like?

Just thinking about them makes me want to make they again tonight! These crispy grilled chicken wings combine the spicy asian flavor of ginger with sweet and slightly bitter orange jam and smokey chipotle in adobo sauce. They are not too spicy at all, and can easily pass as mild, and the smokey sweet adobo sauce contributes to their complex flavor.

They make for one of the best summer grilled chicken recipes because of how much of a crowd pleaser they are! And what is summer without enjoying food outside surrounded by friends and family. So pour yourself a glass of iced tea, and let’s get started!

How To Cook Wings On The Grill:

When it comes to grilling chicken, it’s all about not cranking the heat too soon. If the heat is too high, the fat will escape the chicken, leaving you with the dreaded DRY chicken!

  • Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full list of ingredients and instructions!

  1. Start by pre-heating your grill to 375 degrees F.
  2. Dab the chicken wings with a paper towel to dry them of excess moisture, and place them in a large bowl. Toss the wings with a little salt/pepper and garlic powder. Allow the wings to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before grilling.
  3. Spray the wings with cooking spray, and place them directly on the grill rack. Close the lid, and allow to cook for 5 minutes before flipping to the other side. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Increase the heat to 450. Cook the wings for 7 minutes on each side before removing from the grill.
  5. While the wings are cooking, you will need to make the sauce. In a small sauce pan, combine the orange jam, ginger puree, salt and chipotle in adobo sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer for 8 minutes before removing from the heat.
  6. Pour the sauce over the cooked wings and toss to coat. Option to garnish with minced red onion, orange zest and parsley or cilantro. Enjoy!

The Sweet And Smokey Wing Sauce Recipe:

The sauce is SO easy to make you guys! You literally toss the ingredients in a sauce pan, bring it to a simmer and let it simmer for about 8 minutes. That’s it! Make sure to stir it a few times to prevent burning.

Store left over sauce in an air tight container in the refrigerator for another use! It will stay good for up to 1 week.

Looking for a safer alternative for food storage? I am obsessed with my Stasher Platinum Silicone Food Grade Reusable Storage Bag! You can cook food in them, store food in them, and even sous vide or freeze food! They are leakproof, dishwasher-safe and completely non-toxic. I highly recommend them to anyone trying to use less plastic!

When To Serve Chipotle Ginger Orange Grilled Chicken Wings:

You really can’t go wrong serving these wings at a bbq or back yard get together. Since they are so easy to make, you can just toss them on the grill with the burgers and dogs, and then toss them in the sauce!

You can also serve them for a casual dinner! I like to pour some of the extra sauce over grilled vegetables and serve the meal with rice or cauliflower rice.
