The PowerXL Air Fryer VS A Traditional Oven

PowerXL makes a large variety of air fryers to suit just about any home cooks needs. Lets go over the differences in how food is cooked between a conventional oven, a toaster oven, and an air fryer.

Conventional Oven

A photo of an open oven with a built in microwave above it

A conventional oven has two heating elements that essentially heat the air inside the oven to cook the food. The air gets hot to bake whatever goes into the oven, while the heating element at the top of the regular oven is used to broil the food closest to it.

Toaster Oven

a photo of the electronic panels of a toaster oven on a counter

A toaster oven uses radiant heat, the same way that the average toaster does. Basically, the system works by changing electrical energy into heat energy through the use of wires and nickel/chromium metal alloys.

Air Frying Oven

Traditional air fryers have a heating mechanism and a powerful fan. You place the food in a crisper tray, and when you turn it on, hot air rushes down and around the food. The rapid circulation of superheated air makes the food crispy—similar to deep-frying, but without the oil. The heating elements are usually found at the top of the air fryer.

The Various Cooking Functions Of The PowerXL Air Fryer Grill Function

In comparison to other large capacity air fryer grills, the PowerXL came out with an extra-versatile indoor grill that can not only grill your food, but can also air fry it! Let’s dive into the features.

  • WHAT IT COMES WITH – It comes with an 8 piece deluxe accessory set, which includes a nonstick grill pan, nonstick griddle pan, stainless steel mesh fry basket, baking pan, stainless steel roasting rack, rotisserie spit, egg/muffin pan, a drip tray and a recipe book!

  • SMOKELESS GRILLING – The nonstick grill pan gives you authentic char grill marks that we all crave when grilling. It’s those grill marks that contribute so much flavor to your food, so this is a big plus in my book. You have the ability to grill any day of the year, with virtually no smoke.

  • AIR FRYER FUNCTION OF GRILL – Similar to their regular air fryer, the PowerXL Grill air fryer function cooks food up to 40% quicker cooking time than a conventional oven. The superheated cyclonic air moves extra fast for even cooking, and little to no oil is required!

  • PRE-SET COOKING OPTIONS – There are 8 intuitive pre-sets for digital control that will help guide you to cook your food the way you want. They include grill, air fry/grill, air fry, broil, pizza/bake, toast/bagel, rotisserie, reheat or program your own time and temperature.

What Foods Can It Cook?

It will depend on the cubic inches and type of PowerXL air fryer you get, but there are a very wide variety of foods that you can cook in their air fryer! Let’s go over the foods you can cook in the air fryer grill and in their regular air fryer.

  • POWERXL AIR FRYER GRILL – You have the ability to cook an entire 10 lb chicken with the rotisserie attachment, six large burgers, rotisserie kebabs, seafood, a variety of desserts, vegetables, a medium sized pizza and a ton more! You can basically cook an entire meal, and the bake function allows you to also make desserts!

  • POWERXL AIR FRYER (7 quart) – You can cook so much food in this 7 quart air fryer! A few examples are super crispy french fries, chicken nuggets, steaks, pork chops, burgers, vegetables like butternut squash and zucchini, and baked goods. The air fry function yields perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside foods if you set it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make or re-heat soups and sauces?

While nothing liquid should ever go into an air fryer, the air fryer grill has the ability to heat up soups if stored in the proper container.

Do air fryers need to preheat?

Preheating the air fryer grill for a few minutes will help your food get crispier, if that is your desire. If you are cooking from a cold start, add 3 minutes to the cooking time to compensate.

Are air fryers dishwasher safe?

No, the entire device is not dishwasher safe due to the electronics and heating elements. Only the drip tray and removable accessories are dishwasher safe, but check your specific model’s manual for more precise cleaning instructions.

Are air fryers healthy?

Generally speaking, air frying is healthier than frying in oil. It cuts calories by 70% to 80% and has less fat. This cooking method might also cut down on some of the other harmful effects of oil frying.

How does air fryer food taste?

Of course, this is subjective. But in my personal opinion, air fryer food tastes slightly different due to the lack of oil used. Oil changes the flavor of our food slightly, so when it is not used, you are left with a more authentic flavor. And the crispiness is a huge bonus when it comes to texture.

What Are The Cons?

  • We have spent so much time going over the air fryer itself, now lets go over some of the drawbacks. There are some PowerXL Air Fryer reviews that report the air fryer not working, or breaking quickly after they received it. This was not my experience, but we all know things like this can happen.

They have a good customer service center, and even offer a 90-day money-back guarantee. And if you purchase it directly from Tristar Products, Inc. via phone or online at the PowerXL products website, you will also get a 1-year VIP protection plan that will replace your PowerXL with a brand-new unit absolutely free.

  • Some people report the machine to be a little too noisy. I personally had no problem with the noise, but if this is something that would bother you, it may not be the best option for you.
  • My only complaint is that when I cook, I cook a lot of food for family members. You are slightly limited on the quantity of food that you can cook, because depending on what you are cooking, it may need to be positioned in the air fryer grill in a certain way. In those cases, you may need to cook in batches, which kind of takes away the purpose of ‘quick cooking’.

My Personal Opinion On The PowerXL Air Fryer Grill

As I mentioned earlier in this post, this is not sponsored. So this is my honest and true opinion on this small kitchen appliance.

PowerXL Air Fryer Review:

The larger sized PowerXL air fryers are fantastic if you like to cook larger quantities of food, or cook for a family. I have used the 6 quart Instant Pot air fryer lid , and the crisper bucket is way too small for the quantities I cook. The sides of your food get stuck to the outer sides of the bucket, and you can really only fit two small chicken breasts inside.

The 7 quart and 8 quart PowerXL air fryers fit a lot more food in comparison, and are very simple to use.

They have about 9 different air fryers with different functions, so I encourage you to check them all out for yourself and decide which one best suits your lifestyle and wants.

But in my opinion, the PowerXL Microwave Air Fryer Plus is a fantastic option if you are ready for a new microwave oven, and also want the option to air fry. This way you don’t have to add another kitchen appliance to your counter tops since the air fryer is built in to the microwave!

PowerXL Air Fryer Grill Review

Similar to the PowerXL Microwave Air Fryer Plus, the Power XL Air Fryer Grill is a great kitchen appliance to purchase if you want the versatility of cooking with a variety of different methods without having to own multiple appliances.

It doesn’t take up too much space on the counter, and the removable drip tray and other accessories are very easy to clean.

It does get VERY hot to the touch, so I recommend keeping it away from little hands, and also keeping it away from anything flammable.

As for how it cooks, I find that everything I have cooked in it has come out fantastic. The foods I want crispy come out crispy, and the foods I want with grill marks come out with grill marks. It also has a great recipe book that you can reference for ideas!

My biggest complaint would have to be the size, since I tend to cook large quantities of food at a time.

But the fact that you can also bake in it is a huge plus for anyone that likes to bake!

Is It Worth The Money?

So to wrap it up, I think that the PowerXL Air Fryer is DEFINITELY worth the money. It’s a great option for anyone with limited counter space that wants the luxury of being able to air fry, grill and bake all in one device.
