I think it is officially a fact that fizzy bubbles make everything better. Including coffee! In this orange coffee tonic drink recipe, cold brew coffee is mixed with tonic and a splash of orange juice for a delightful and refreshing fizzy coffee that will blow you away! I promise, it truly tastes AMAZING!
What Is A Coffee Tonic?
I first experienced tonic coffee about 2 years ago at a small coffee shop outside of Boston. I was so obsessed with it, I used to make it every day before work!
Basically, a coffee tonic is when you mix coffee, espresso or cold brew concentrate with tonic water. You can also add other juices or spices to it to jazz it up.
It is a great quick morning beverage because you can just pour it all into your to-go cup, and you’re good! This is also a delightful brunch coffee idea because you can always add alcohol to it! Did anyone say coffee cocktail?!
An orange coffee tonic can also be a wonderful holiday coffee idea! When you offer your family members coffee after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, they won’t be expecting this festive take on an iced coffee!
Garnish it with an orange peel and thyme, and you will feel like a barista!

What Does Coffee And Tonic Taste Like?
Anyone who enjoys coffee and also enjoys tonic water will absolutely love this coffee tonic recipe. If you don’t like tonic, then you are probably out of luck. But if you’re the type of person whose go-to drink at the bar is a vodka tonic or gin and tonic, then you are going to LOVE this easy morning drink!
The quinine in the tonic water compliments the acidity of the coffee perfectly. Pouring in a splash of orange juice really helps to add a little sweetness and extra pizzazz to this effervescent drink!

Coffee Tonic Ingredients
Here are some quick notes on ingredients:
Cold Brew or Cold Brew Concentrate | In my personal opinion, you can use them interchangeably. Cold brew concentrate is of course stronger than regular cold brew, and is typically cut with water. The flavor will change slightly if you use cold brew vs cold brew concentrate, but I think either works! You can purchase store-bought cold brew concentrate, or you can make your own! |
Coffee | I have also used regular brewed coffee. This is probably my least favorite, as the coffee flavor isn’t nearly as strong as it is with cold brew or espresso. If you do brew your own, try to make it as strong as possible and of course make sure to cool it down completely in the refrigerator prior to pouring it over ice. |
Tonic Water | You can purchase tonic water at most grocery stores, liquor stores or convenience stores. Fever Tree makes a phenomenal indian tonic water that I definitely recommend. And I recommend purchasing the cans or individual bottles so that you can make this a few days in a row! Trust me, you’re going to want to! |
Orange Juice | Fresh squeezed orange juice is definitely the way to go. It is so much tastier than the boxed juice version, but of course you can use the boxed juice kind if you want! You can also swap out orange juice for lime juice! Just add a little sweetener like honey or simple syrup. |

Orange Coffee Tonic
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups chilled cold brew coffee OR 1/3 cup chilled cold brew concentrate (or iced dark roast coffee)
- 7.5 oz tonic water
- 2 to 3 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice (the boxed kind also works, but is less flavorful)
Instructions
- Add ice cubes to a large glass. Carefully pour in the tonic water, trying not to let it get too bubbly.
- Now add the cold brew coffee or espresso shots. Pour in the orange juice.
- Stir it all up in a glass filled with ice and you are ready to enjoy your bubbly morning beverage. And if you are trying to get your girls' day brunch on, I suggest adding your favorite spirits, such as gin, vodka, or baileys Irish cream for a spiked tonic coffee!
Notes
- Make sure you are using tonic water, and not seltzer or soda water.
- Orange juice without pulp is best for this recipe. If you can get fresh squeezed, even better!
