What Is Espresso Tonic?
Espresso tonic is a combination of espresso, tonic water and a citrus juice, such as lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice. The quinine in the tonic water adds a refreshing and slightly bitter flavor to the rich, complex flavor of espresso. It’s EXTRA bubbly, and seriously addicting!

Who Will Love This Coffee Recipe?
Anyone who enjoys coffee, and also enjoys tonic, will absolutely love this espresso tonic recipe. If you don’t like tonic, then you are probably out of luck. But if you’re the type of person who’s go-to drink at the bar is a gin and tonic, than you are going to LOVE this easy morning drink! The quinine in the tonic water compliments the acidity of the coffee perfectly.
Pouring in a splash of orange juice really helps to add a little sweetness and extra pizzazz to this effervescent drink!
When To Serve It:
I first experienced tonic coffee about 3 years ago at a small coffee shop outside of Boston. I was so obsessed with it, I used to make it every day before work! It is a great quick morning beverage because you can just pour it all in your to-go cup, and you’re good!
This is also a fantastic brunch recipe, because you can always add alcohol to it! Orange coffee tonic can also be a wonderful holiday coffee idea! When you offer your family members coffee after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, they won’t be expecting this festive take on an ice coffee!
I also find that I crave it as a fall coffee recipe. When the air begins to crisp up, but the sun is still strong, adding the warm spices to this iced coffee drink makes for the perfect early fall drink recipe!
What Can I Use Instead Of Espresso?
If you do not have any espresso on hand, cold brew works great (though I personally like espresso better). You may find that you will want to use more cold brew for a ratio of 1:1 cold brew to tonic water.
