Did you know that you can make a super flavorful and creamy ranch dressing with Greek yogurt? All you need are a few spices and herbs and an immersion blender or regular blender! And yogurt, of course. It comes together in less than 5 minutes and can be served as a dressing for salads, a dip for veggies, or even a marinade for chicken.

Why I Love To Make Homemade Ranch Dressing With Greek Yogurt

I love the flavor of ranch so much. Ranch dressing is known for its creamy texture and tangy flavor profile. It typically has a base of buttermilk or mayonnaise, mixed with herbs and spices such as parsley, dill, garlic, onion, and black pepper.

The combination of these ingredients creates a savory and slightly tangy taste with hints of herbs and garlic. It’s like the perfect sauce for everything, from veggies to pizza, bringing that extra flavor punch we all love.

The real reason why I like to make my own homemade ranch dressing so much is that I hate how many preservatives and additives are in store-bought dressings. As you know, I follow a Mediterranean diet, and any time I can cut out processed food for something that I can easily make at home, it’s a win-win situation for both my health and my taste buds.

Healthy Ingredients In Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

Everything in this dressing is healthy and minimally processed, if at all!

  • Greek Yogurt – Greek yogurt is packed with protein, probiotics, and calcium, supporting muscle health, gut function, and bone density.

  • Buttermilk – Don’t worry if you don’t have it! It’s easily made from regular milk or your favorite dairy-free milk by adding vinegar or lemon juice to the milk and letting it sit for about 10 minutes.

  • Dijon Mustard – Dijon mustard is a must for this recipe, as it adds a strong tangyness that I think is really lacking if you don’t use it.

  • Lemon Juice – Adding just the right amount of lemon juice really elevates this dressing, bringing a refreshing brightness and necessary acidity.

  • Chives – I actually consider chives the ‘secret ingredient‘ of homemade ranch. Chives add a subtle onion flavor and vibrant color, enhancing the dressings overall taste and appearance. They are packed with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like calcium and iron, which support immune health, collagen production, and blood clotting. They are also high in antioxidants!

  • Parsley – Parsley is rich in vitamins K, C, and A, as well as antioxidants like flavonoids and carotenoids, which support bone health, immune function, and cardiovascular health, while its compounds such as apigenin may also have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.

  • Garlic Powder & Onion Powder – Garlic powder and onion powder add depth of flavor and savory notes to this greek yogurt ranch recipe, enhancing its taste and providing a hint of sweetness and umami richness without the texture of fresh garlic or onion.

When To Use It

This dressing is the best because it is so versatile. You have your traditional salads that you can drizzle it over, but then you’ve also got wings to dip in it, veggies to dip, in a chopped salad sandwich, and so much more. Here are a few ways that I have enjoyed this dressing!

Serve Yogurt Dressing With…

  • Frozen Buffalo Cauliflower Wings

  • Spinach Salad with Asparagus, Feta & Mushroom Bacon

  • Shrimp & Quinoa Buddha Bowl

  • Mediterranean Chopped Sandwich

  • Turkey Club Pizza

How To Store

Store leftover ranch in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It does slightly harden in the refrigerator, so give it a good stir before using again.

Equipment

  • 1 immersion blender or regular blender/food processor

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk add 1 tsp of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1/3 cup regular milk or dairy-free milk and let it sit for 10 minutes)
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 3 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 tsp table salt
  • 1 tbsp chives about 1 inch if you're cutting the chives from a bunch
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • fresh cracked black pepper

Instructions

  • If you need to make the buttermilk, add 1 tsp of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1/3 cup regular milk or dairy-free milk, stir, and let it sit for 10 minutes
  • Place all of the ingredients into a deep immersion blender cup or a deep bowl. Using an immersion blender, blend until the chives and parsley are fully chopped and well integrated. You should be left with a creamy dressing. If you need to use a blender, follow these instructions, just make sure you don't over blend. I wouldnt go past 10 seconds.
  • Taste and see if you would like more acidity (lemon juice), or more salt/spices.
  • Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days, and give it a good stir before using. Enjoy!
